Mechanics of Music Fest Returns to Westminster Pier Park on June 27

If you’re looking for a midday musical feast, the Mechanics of Music Fest is back on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Westminster Pier Park in New Westminster, British Columbia. The free‑entry event, organized by Mechanics of Music Studios and the non‑profit Rock the Block Society, will run from noon to 6:30 p.m., offering a full afternoon of live music, local vendors, and family‑friendly activities.

Mechanics of Music Studios, a New Westminster‑based school that provides private lessons, group classes, workshops and community events, teamed with Rock the Block Society—an organization that makes live music accessible to people facing financial, social or physical barriers—to bring the festival to a larger venue after the first year’s success. The move to Westminster Pier Park reflects growing attendance and a desire to accommodate a broader audience.

The program includes a vendor market where local artisans and food vendors set up booths, as well as balloon twisting, face painting, and an “instrument petting zoo” that lets visitors try out a range of instruments. Organizers describe the day as a “love letter to the community,” aiming to inspire more people to take music lessons.

Student groups, teacher‑led bands, and local talent will fill the stage. The lineup features the Cat Murphy Band, and several Mechanics of Music ensembles such as Rock Star Crew, Sizzlin’ Rainbows, Benchwarmers, The STANK, and Boom Boom Cactus Monkeys. Tri‑Cities‑based Westwood Theory will headline the evening at 6 p.m., giving each act a chance to perform in a festival‑sized setting regardless of experience level.

Beyond entertainment, the festival showcases Mechanics of Music’s educational programs. Students who have completed private or group lessons often perform on the stage, gaining real‑world experience and exposure to a wider audience. The event is part of the studio’s outreach strategy to promote music education throughout the region.

In a statement to Freshet News, event coordinator Keely Rammage‑Scott said the event “is a love letter to our community” and that “music is for everyone and we love using it to connect people.” She added that many of the student bands will be adults who take group or private classes, and that the festival hopes to inspire more people to join the community’s music lessons. Kaitlin Deavy, owner of Mechanics of Music and executive director of Rock the Block Society, said in a news release that the festival “is all about seeing people live out their rockstar dreams on a festival‑sized stage, no matter where they are in their musical journey, and celebrating every bit of courage, growth and joy that goes into getting on stage.” She described the day as “the best day celebrating this amazing community, all the fun we’ve had, and all the progress we’ve made over the last year.”

The Mechanics of Music Fest will run from 12:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Westminster Pier Park. Attendees can expect music, food, crafts, and interactive activities—all free and open to people of all ages. Organizers have not announced any additional dates or venues beyond the current festival, and no further updates have been released as of the time of writing.
