Gradience Unveils Debut Album Anomaly, Set for September 4 Release on Metal Blade Records

Gradience, the Danish duo of guitarist Jakob Lærke Harris and vocalist Gavin Mistry, announced that their debut studio album Anomaly will drop on September 4, 2026 through Metal Blade Records. The pair describe the record as a bold fusion of blackened death metal, sludge, and trap‑rap—an amalgam that mirrors their eclectic musical upbringing.

The news was accompanied by a pre‑order link on Metal Blade’s site and a statement from Harris. He said the songwriting felt “straightforward” once the two began collaborating, noting that they set out to write metal that was “completely new” and that they were motivated to create music for themselves rather than for an external audience. Mistry echoed this in a separate interview, framing the lyrics as a personal diary of his immigrant experience in Denmark. He explained that the songs probe feelings of isolation, confrontation, and the need for solitude—themes that recur throughout the album’s eleven tracks.

Anomaly launches with the aggressive title track “Vermin,” then traverses a landscape of heavy riffs and rhythmic vocal delivery. The track list is: 1. Vermin 2. Blame Me 3. Agony 4. Master to the Slave 5. Stains 6. Deathwish 7. Slow 8. Undone 9. A Witness 10. White Noise 11. Grimey Potential

The duo has already released several singles that give a taste of the album’s direction. “Deathwish” debuted with a music video in May, showcasing hard‑hitting guitar work paired with rap‑style vocal lines. “Master to the Slave” followed, accompanied by a YouTube clip that highlighted the group’s dynamic stage presence. The latest single, “White Noise,” dropped with a video featuring spoken‑word sections at the end—a stylistic choice Mistry said reflects the track’s “unpredictability.”

Metal Blade Records, founded in 1982 by Brian Slagel, has long championed heavy metal and its subgenres. Its roster includes acts that push genre boundaries, and the signing of Gradience fits that tradition. In a statement announcing the partnership, Metal Blade’s European manager Markus “Bart” Grasseck praised the duo’s “innovation, intensity, and fearless creativity,” adding that they embody everything the label stands for.

The album’s genre mix draws on blackened death metal—characterized by death growls, blast beats, and a blend of black and death metal aesthetics—sludge, with its slow tempos and down‑tuned guitars, and trap‑rap, a contemporary hip‑hop style known for rhythmic vocal delivery. By combining these elements, Gradience aims to create a sound that is both aggressive and rhythmically complex, a direction that reviewers have described as “unconventional” and “experimental.”

Anomaly will be available in digital and CD formats, with a bundled digi‑CD option offered through Metal Blade’s European store. Fans can pre‑order the album directly from the label’s website, where the band’s official artwork and track previews are also available. The release is expected to enter the metal charts in Denmark and potentially on international streaming platforms, where the duo’s cross‑genre approach may attract listeners from both metal and hip‑hop communities.

With the September launch, Gradience will be the latest act to broaden Metal Blade’s catalog of genre‑blending metal. The album’s themes of personal struggle and creative experimentation signal the duo’s intention to carve out a fresh voice in the Danish metal scene and beyond.
